The quicker we can see that it’s not meant to be So serious like this maybe we’ll have a chance If we’re too slow we’re late, I said before that it’s a shame To miss this night for you, chance to wear those shoes The lace has come undone So we gave up the fun I’d like to see you smile Before I run for miles So mind those distance blues and learn to live life through Prepare to end it all I’m starting over now
It seems like it’s been hot more often than not It’s like we found the sun and who she was hiding from On Our Island

Grip 03:29
Spending all my money, and leave me in a heap You’ve got a grip on me I’m feeling funny dunno if I should eat I think I’ll go back to sleep Back when I was twenty we lived on the same street And then we sowed the seeds Couldn’t stem the flow and the tunnel brightly glowed I forgot how to breathe We’ll fit this decade in a message I don’t want to read
Let’s stop pretending it’s all we wanted It’s not even what we need
Don’t need reminding slowly we’re finding What we’re looking for We’re looking forward so don’t twist our words And spit them back at me

Gary Taylor 20:53 (2 minutes ago) to dean Hi Dean Sorry for the delay! Song lyrics for the EP below. Cheers, Gary On Our Island The quicker we can see that it’s not meant to be So serious like this maybe we’ll have a chance If we’re too slow we’re late, I said before that it’s a shame To miss this night for you, chance to wear those shoes The lace has come undone So we gave up the fun I’d like to see you smile Before I run for miles So mind those distance blues and learn to live life through Prepare to end it all I’m starting over now

Don’t need reminding slowly we’re finding What we’re looking for We’re looking forward so don’t twist our words And spit them back at me

Want Me To Sitting quietly under roses reading endlessly Feeling alone but not lonely, the past is always sunny I revisit what I’ve seen, that’t not to say that I’ve not been Places recently, try and relish our own thing Don’t be late and don’t explain and I’ll remain if you want me to Cos I’m in love my aim is true, unlike the sun I’m with you
We feel deeply realise the pain, we’ve been so far out again Would you rub my shoulders that way, big deal I don’t look the same

 Corner of the World
If you’re holding out for something better now Then you’re waiting for the rain
That’s why we talk about the weather all the time Like it’s not always the same I folded up to make me tough, it’s not enough So take the iron out the fire and hold it up I’m branded like an animal I feel so small So I stand up and read aloud for everyone You feel you’re living in the corner of the world And there’s not much for you The truth is living farther from it all There’s not much to lose Maryhills no Nashville and it’s Memphis even less But Gerry didn’t worry there’s plenty country left See the Grand Ole Oprey but it’s not what you expect And let Your Cheatin’ Heart explain the rest.
We’re obsessed with Americana lives Dream of the southern sun But I’m sure that we realise the lies And prefer where we come from

Maudlin A helping hand, a family man Fresh baked goods with no brand Pick up your messages take out your bins The neighbours say hi again Re-pot and plant the garden within These thick walls have never seemed so thin The heat of the sun as you lay out to burn In the red of the peak of the storm I think about you in the evening When I sing a sentimental song I wonder how your feeling Crying with the maudlin ones Re react read and revolt Strip off as we’re told Cover up when it’s cold and listen close Be in tune with the moon Skim a stone from shore to shore The bridge across is no more Sink a brick the waters thick Frothy white like beer
Take the old road by the cart Quick pub lunch before we start Visit a castle, a glass of milk Bolo ties and blouse of silk In the house alone the sharpest mind We seemed the most alike Every film that we’ve both seen A walking IMDB

Only I’ve seen the footprints in the snow Only ice carving monuments in stone I’ve seen sights turn to sores I am bound to know Scattered diamonds are trampled underfoot Too many memories we ramble through Sheets of freezing foil Falling down on you This ill atmosphere will take us down After all these years we’ve worked it out
Heading eastward through Fife to the coast Our hearts needed this, life to slow Only I feel the difference in the tide In my old life I found it easier to lie For years it seemed the buildings called me home Clearly these days the mountains call me now I have seen your soul, when you seem so low Maybe we have got to stop attributing Every conversation to a bigger thing

about

King Rib is the solo project of Glasgow’s Craig McIntyre, formerly of the fearsome and much loved Citizens and currently Cutty’s Gym. As King Rib, McIntyre has stepped away from the city’s basement hardcore scene, finding a dusty porch to rest and lament a mellower Americana songwriting style. Finger picking and gently stomping along, King Rib picks up the trails of Gram Parsons, Glenn Campbell and Beck to explore his own road West.

“On Our Island” is McIntyre's second offering under the King Rib moniker following last years debut album “Sing The Blues Electric”. Six new tracks were written over the last year of lockdowns in Craig’s Southside tenement, arranged and recorded with Jimi Maffei with musicians across the country contributing remotely. McIntyre has further explored his take on Americana-infused folk-pop with collaborators adding pianos, Rhodes organ and steel guitar to the mix granting nods to country and psychedelic rock, 90’s indie and jazz. These tracks are drawn together by McIntyre's introspective lyrics, with themes of isolated contemplation and reflection projected to the scale of the American prairie.

“Making On Our Island essentially got me through this past year” said Craig. “After recording some acoustic demos at home I linked up with drummer/producer Jimi Maffei. Together we spent some time on arrangements, turning these songs into something special. The contributions of Jimi and other musicians around the country took us in a new and exciting direction.”

This is no more evident than on the title track. Enhanced by Jimi's Rhodes piano and Adam Znaidi's Moog, “On Our Island” pulses back and forth on its soft yet punchy bass line until the sky collapses in a psychedelic daze. McIntyre reflects on challenges faced alone over the last year, a time in which maintaining perspective has been crucial.

“Corner of the World” concerns the seclusion of growing up in the middle of nowhere, feeling the pull of the stage lights and glamour of a Nashville ballroom or Austin City Limits.
